The course consists of one preparatory day in Lunteren and eleven days in the heart of the wilderness of Tajikistan. During the preparatory day, Outdoor Medicine provides an introduction to expedition medicine, covering topics such as the (patho)physiology of altitude sickness and the medical logistics preparation for an expedition. Additionally, the practical aspects of providing medical support for expeditions are addressed, including scenario training with limited resources. Rewild focuses on the practical aspects of the trek, such as required equipment and logistical preparation.
During the expedition itself, Outdoor Medicine instructors provide instruction on various core topics in expedition medicine at different times. The trek through the Fann Mountains offers the perfect environment for hands-on training in realistic conditions, where altitude, extreme weather, and remote locations present daily challenges.
The Expedition Medicine course is specifically designed for (para)medics with an interest in outdoor sports and adventure. Are you a healthcare professional looking to prepare for work as an expedition doctor? Then this course is the perfect opportunity to explore both your medical knowledge and physical limits.
This course is organized by Outdoor Medicine in collaboration with Rewild. Rewild manages the travel and mountain treks, while Outdoor Medicine is responsible for the medical training. Together, they provide a unique combination of adventure and education in one of the most remote and spectacular mountainous regions in the world.
