Dive & Marine Life Support - Tall ship edition 2019
Course
2019-11-02 to 2019-11-09

This course/trip is organized by Outdoor Medicine (responsible for the course content), in cooperation with travel agency ‘Eigen Wijze Duikreizen (responsible for organizing the trip, e.g. accommodation and contacts with the dive school.

The course will be held on the beautiful Santa Maria Manuela. This tall ship was build in 1937 as codfisher for the Portugese government. Her fishing grounds were mainly around Newfoundland and Greenland. Since 2016, the ship is used as carter vessel and has been serving as a sailing research and education platform.

We will be sailing during most of the course.

The journey will start at São Vicente and will lead to Sal via other islands. Thus, your return flight will not be via the same airport. Please note: due to the limited flight possibilities, all flights will probably be booked via EWDR at TUIfly. More info will be provided in due course.

Participants without a diving certificate (PADI, SSI, NAUI)  have the possibility to (partially) obtain their PADI Open Water certificate during the course. Only the theoretical part (e-learning online) needs to be completed beforehand.

Next to the course program, you will have much spare time, which you can use to work onboard along with the crew to help with all kinds of maritime activities, but also to enjoy the offshore sailing and the beautiful views around the Cape Verde islands.

The instruction language will be English.

The course fee includes:

  • Stay for eight nights at Santa Maria Manuela in a cabin shared with one or more fellow students.
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The course fee excludes:

  • Flight from Amsterdam to São Vicente and back from Sal to Amsterdam. Please note: due to the limited flight possibilities, all flights will probably be booked via EWDR at TUIfly. More info will be provided in due course.
  • Travel insurance (including diving / water sports coverage): this is mandatory for participation!
